Hello folks,
This page began after I mentioned one of the many ways the Sears corporation supports our men
and women in the military and in response to the following letter from Martha in North Carolina.
Hi Shellie,
Thanks for the reminder about Sears making up the difference in pay for its employees who are recalled to active duty. I'd forgotten about it too. I'll shoot them an email as soon as my fingers thaw out. It was only 12 degrees up here on my mountaintop this morning. But I digress: I wanted to ask you if you could maybe put a note in your weekly ATS to ask for input about other big businesses that are doing the same thing as Sears? Maybe we could get a list together and make it public somehow. We really ought to support those that are supporting our sons & daughters who are now going -- on our behalf – in harm's way. I know I'll support 'em if I just know who they are, and I'm sure my friends and neighbors would too. Keep up the good work, Shellie!
Kudos to the National Military Family Association and "Operation Purple" Summer Camp ~
Registration for "Operation Purple" summer camps for children of deployed service members begins April 15 on the National Military Family Association's website. The 22
Operation Purple camps worldwide provide summer camp experiences for more than 2,000 children whose parents are deployed in the U.S. armed
forces. The camps are funded through the Sears American Dream Campaign allowing children to attend the camps free of charge. According to
NMFA officials, Operation Purple is the only summer camp program that focuses on helping children deal with deployment-related issues, and
is open to children of personnel from all branches of the U.S. armed forces. Applications will be available April 15 through May 15 on the
NMFA website.
Notes from Chris in Idaho, a fellow porcher and serviceman's wife. They are
the personal experiences of her husband:
Kudos to American Airlines, for bumping traveling military personnel to empty first
class seats this past weekend. More kudos to Northwest Airlines, upon hearing that
a plane reservation was being made for a soldier going on leave, slashed the price
to near half. Why? "Just our way of saying Thank you." No, Thank YOU, Northwest!
